In Yoga we were to pick 3 goals to help lessen our ecological foot
print, as well as create a SMART
goals outline on how we intend to accomplish them.
We also were studying the Sutras and how we ourselves use the principles.
The principles of respect for others include nonviolence, truth, honesty, moderation, and noncovetousness.
After the Yamas we then studied the Niyamas which are meant as guidelines for daily living.
This was a self reflection assignment with no right or wrong answers that really tested me to put into words a lot of the aspects of feeling, action, and how I view things around me. It also challenged my creativity which kept me interested in writing it.
One paper was to write about a change agent or industry that works towards progress making environmental positive change. It is about a man named Mike Reynolds, and how he fought to build sustainable housing in the New Mexican desserts and other areas. A link to my paper is accessible here. The Garbage Warrior.
We were also asked to watch one of 2 films. Being I had already seen Al Gores "The Inconvenient Truth" many times I watched the second option "The True Cost." After watching it
we were asked to write a few paragraphs on what it was about and how we will act on the information we received from
it.
Our last assignment was a paper on a larger than normal purchase that we were to research that had the potential of being a personal environmental change that we could suit our lifestyle. I went a bit outside the scope of personal and went into the realm of a potential means of surviving by helping others to survive and introduced an idea of a 'Green Market' business proposal.
